The Government of Trinidad and Tobago has reiterated its commitment to ensuring that the law is applied equally to all citizens, regardless of wealth, status, political influence, or social standing.
In a statement, the government emphasized that no individual or group is above the law. Authorities made it clear that persons associated with groups such as the “Sixx,” the “Seven,” the “One Percent,” or any other organization will be subject to the same legal standards and processes as every other citizen.
The government stressed that law enforcement agencies have a responsibility to uphold the rule of law fairly and consistently, with no special treatment or immunity granted based on financial resources, status, or associations.
Officials also revealed that the state is receiving international assistance to investigate billions of U.S. dollars transferred out of Trinidad and Tobago over the past two decades. Investigations are expected to focus on alleged money laundering activities, foreign currency transactions, and links to drug trafficking operations.
According to the statement, authorities are examining claims that significant sums of foreign currency were transferred to overseas accounts connected to criminal organizations and used to acquire businesses and real estate holdings.
The government noted that billions of dollars’ worth of illegal drugs have passed through the country over the past 25 years and pledged to pursue all leads as part of ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and financial crimes.
Officials reassured law-abiding citizens that they have nothing to fear from the actions of local and international law enforcement agencies, as investigations continue in the interest of justice and national security.
