More than $10,000 in scholarships and prizes were awarded to Bahamian students during the 2026 Bahamas Laws of Life Essay Competition Awards Ceremony held on Saturday, June 13, 2026.
The awards were presented by the Templeton World Charity Foundation, which sponsors the annual competition aimed at encouraging young people to reflect on the values and principles that guide their lives.
Senator Keenan Johnson, Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, delivered the keynote address and presented trophies and certificates to participants in recognition of their achievements.
Inspired by the teachings of philanthropist Sir John Templeton and his “Laws of Life,” the competition challenges students to write essays exploring the importance of a personal law, core value, or positive character trait that influences their decisions and actions.
The competition was open to students from Grade 5 through the college level, providing young people with an opportunity to develop their writing skills while reflecting on values such as integrity, perseverance, respect, responsibility, and compassion.
Organizers praised the students for their creativity and thoughtful submissions, noting that the competition continues to inspire the next generation of leaders by encouraging personal growth, ethical decision-making, and positive citizenship.
