Two officials from the National Water and Sewerage Authority (NAWASA) of Grenada are currently participating in a regional training workshop aimed at strengthening emergency water response capabilities across the Caribbean.
Jeremie Murray, District Supervisor in NAWASA’s Transmission and Distribution Department, and Juan Lambert, Production and Quality Supervisor, are attending the Regional AR6 Water Filtration Technical Training and Interoperability Workshop in Castries, Saint Lucia, from June 15 to 19, 2026.
The workshop is being hosted by the Caribbean Water and Sewerage Association (CAWASA) in partnership with the Global Support and Development (GSD) Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Programme.
Participants from utility companies and emergency management agencies in Grenada, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, and Saint Lucia are taking part in the training, which focuses on enhancing regional cooperation and disaster response preparedness.
A key component of the workshop is training on the AR6 High-Capacity Water Filtration System, a portable multi-stage filtration unit designed for rapid deployment during emergencies. The system is capable of removing up to 99.99 percent of pathogens and particulates, providing safe drinking water from surface water sources without the need for extensive chemical treatment.
Through practical exercises, water quality testing, field deployment simulations, and technical discussions, participants are gaining the skills needed to support decentralized water production and emergency response operations.
NAWASA says the training will strengthen its ability to provide safe drinking water during disasters and emergencies, while contributing to Grenada’s overall resilience and fostering greater collaboration among Caribbean water utilities.
