His Life
In his early adulthood, Vernon resided in Trinidad and Tobago for some time. During that period, he served as a soldier in the Trinidad and Tobago Regiment.
Upon his return to Dominica, Vernon became one of the pioneers of the Rastafarian movement. Through the movement, he had the opportunity to enlighten young people who gathered at the University of Four Corners in Roseau.
Vernon migrated to the United States in the mid-1970s and began a career with General Motors in 1979. His career took him to Framingham, Massachusetts; Tarrytown, New York; and finally Shreveport, Louisiana, where he retired after 26 years of service.
In 2005, Vernon journeyed to Ethiopia for Bob Marley’s 60th birthday celebrations. During that trip, he had the opportunity to visit and stay in Shashemene, on land gifted to the Rastafarian community by His Imperial Majesty Haile Selassie I.
Vernon was beloved by his family and friends and was a joy to work with. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
